Joke meets Cuba

13 July 2008

We are leaving Trinidad, only one hour on the bus to Cienfuegos. Our expectations of Cienfuegos... Well, Greet & Gwen are hoping to have a few days of a beach holiday, chilling, reading – while i hope to be able to dive again, its 2 years ago since Thailand... So i'm nerveous and excited at the same time...

Our hotel is 17 km away from Cienfuegos, we get there easyly with a taxi. When we were at Alberto & Célina's casa particulares, we decided to book a few days in an all-inn hotel near the beach while we were here in Cuba to get a bit more privacy.

Our hotel & triple bedroom looks nice and clean – there is great swimming pool, but when we arrived it was completely filled up with people and we didn't really felt like jumping in... (not even me)

From our balcony we see the sea and the beach... same scenario – not a square meter of sand left – the beach is completely covered with human bodies... Well, its very hot and its Sunday, so we aren't suprised, but we are hoping that it will be less crowded tomorrow... After all, we did book all-inn to have some "rest and relaxation and 'privacy'"...

I walk in the direction of the diving centre near our hotel. Nobody there... At the reception in our hotel they say i have to try again the next morning at 8am.

We chill a bit and in the late afternoon, we decided to walk along the beach towards a 2nd beach a bit further near the other hotel 'Rancho Luna' (we stay at Faro Luna). Walking along the beach we get to see loads and loads and loads of 'overheated' Cuban men... they are everywhere! And what did we came for... yep "rest and relaxation and privacy"...
Well, as we approach the 2nd beach – things get 'calmer', its more peacefull here – even on a Sunday. I get the idea that we are in the wrong hotel...

We see a 2nd diving Centre as well "Whaleshark diving centre" – also nobody around. A life guard tells us that the 2 divingcentre locations (the one near our hotel en this one)belong together. I need to be at 8am et the one near our hotel and then they come over here by boat.

Back in our hotel, we see that all the Cuban man have been drinking in the sun all afternoon (of course, we should have known – its 'all-inn')... So The restaurant ànd swimming pool area ànd the bar are loaded with drunk overheated middle aged Cuban men... "All part of the game" – euh, don't think so... long live cable television! I know, "totally not done" but after dinner, the bar was not an option anymore... so we went upstairs with a mojito in our hand, we moved the beds, so they are all next to eachother in one big sleeping-island, we all had a good vieuw towards the tele, and we watched "the holiday"! It was great! hehe
